Nepal's first ultra-modern dental laboratory in operation

About 120 dentists care for 22 million Nepalese. However, the treatment is restricted to mostly fillings and teeth extraction. Teeth replacement is rare and of low quality.

Two young Nepalese ladies were trained in the dental laboratory of Gehse Dental GmbH. They were chosen on grounds of manual aptitude and social background. The two, Sapana Shrestha and Anjali Mali, are probably Nepal's first professional dental technicians.

The two young ladies have started to practise the expertise they learned in Germany at Chhatrapati Dental Laboratory , Nepal's first ultra-modern dental lab. The lab was formally inaugurated on January 1, 2000. It was billed as CFC's contribution to Nepal's entry into the 21st Century in the field of dentistry. st A third floor was added to the main CFC building, funded by the Foundation "Nord-Süd-Brücken" (Germany) and a contribution by the German Embassy in Kathmandu. Generous donations by Gehse-Dental GmbH and the German dental industry made it possible to furnish the laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment. Frank Steiniger, a medical technician from Jena/Germany, installed the equipment.

Sapana and Anjali will help improve the standard of the dental service in Nepal. They will also contribute in the improvement of the financial situation of CFC. Mona Schwertner, Kathrin Thuma and Claudia, dental technicians from Jena, supported them during the preparatory and the initial phase of the lab.

We wish Anjali, Sapana and their supporters all the best in fulfilling their challenging task.
